Join Robyn Daly in the Bisque Studios classroom for An introduction to the art of layering and marbling clay in Nerikomi style.

Nerikomi is a contemporary Japanese term which refers to ancient clay marbling techniques, where clay is layered and manipulated to form beautiful and decorative patterns. A practice that can be traced back throughout many continents in history.

In modern times, this method has captivated the imagination of Artist Robyn Daly, as she creates forms and explorational works inspired by this marbling technique.

In this workshop Robyn shares her knowledge and insight into this ancient practice. Guiding you through the Nerikomi method, you’ll learn the art of blending two toned clay together to create your own unique patterns. Then using these patterns, to build a set of forms, with a focus on tumbler and plate set to accompany your morning rituals.

Explore the possibilities of layering patterns and create something truly unique.

This workshop includes

  • Wine & nibbles

  • Preparation techniques, tools and clay discussion

  • Explanation of Nerikomi process and layering clay bodies

  • Hand-building basics, joining techniques and creating balanced forms
    Demonstration on using molds to create slab plates

  • Demonstration on creating slab built vessels &/or cups

  • Creative exploration tips and tricks to creating your own Nerikomi patterns

    1-2 finished pieces, a vessel and a plate. These will then be glazed & completed at our studio. Finished in a clear glaze to accentuate the natural beauty of the clay.
